Tennessee Minimum Auto Insurance Levels

I hardly ever write auto policies with only the state required minimum coverage.

The Tennessee state minimums are 25/50/15, which means the insurance company will pay up to $25,000 for bodily injury to one person, and if more than one person is injured, they’ll pay up to a total of $50,000, and they’ll pay up to $15,000 for property damage that you’ve caused.

That’s just not going to give you adequate coverage.

You take a youngster just getting started, I’d usually recommend 25/50/25, to at least get them in a situation where if they hit a vehicle they won’t be paying for something the rest of their young life.

Because if they hit a vehicle and cause more than $15,000 worth of damage, which is pretty easy to do with today’s car prices, they’ll be stuck owing the difference.

A professional person with a nice home should have more insurance, at least 100/300/50, to protect their home and other personal assets if something happens.
